LIVING IT - CREATIVE - PICTURES - JEN

pictures"This art is a sample of what happens when you spend time with God. Sometimes the pictures I've drawn out are pictures that God gave me. In the same way that God speaks through the scriptures and words through other people, He speaks in pictures that are promises for your life. I believe God also uses art in much the same way as He spoke to the psalmists. Often the psalms start as the writer cries out to God about bad things that are going on in their lives, but as they write God speaks into what is going on and by the end of the psalm they write their praises down to Him. Equally, art and pictures can just be a way of praising God."

"Most importantly: whatever the art looks like or how good it is doesn't matter at all. God's not impressed by the things we make. He made us and knows exactly what we can do, the gifts we have and what we can produce. He wants to know where we're coming from. Being creative is just a tool for meeting with God. It's all about where your heart is at. So who cares what the art looks like, as long as you've met with God!"

The Vessel

This was a picture that God gave me after I made a stand in my life to be completely sold out for Him. He showed me a being a vessel which was once cracked and broken - my life without God. Even if I met with Him at this time His goodness and His spirit would drain out and I would be left feeling empty. As I recommitted to Him he promised to heal me and reshape me, to fill me with His love and goodness to a point where is overflows into other people's lives. These verses express that:

But the pot he was shaping was marred in his hands, so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. (Jeremiah 18: 4)

God has given gifts to you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God's generosity can flow through you. (1 Peter 4: 10)

The Tree

God gave me this picture as I made a promise to give my life to Him and follow Him always. At the time I was very fragile and broken and really needed to soak in God's presence. On the leaves of the tree He put words which were promises for and about me: alive; hope; given; pure; truth; free. This verse is God's promise to all of us - that if we root ourselves deeply to God we will be able to withstand all the trials life throws at us as we depend and rest on Him:

He will be like a tree planted by the water, that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. (Jeremiah 17: 8)

The Journey

This picture kind of shows my journey so far with God. When we first met it was an amazing experience, but as I didn't make a commitment to Him the times when we met meaningfully were quite random, even though they were awesome God-inhabited times. As time went on, I realized the emptiness of life without God and came to make a full commitment to Him. As I walk through life closer to God I experience more and more of Him being around me. As a result I'm growing all the time through really exciting times and also harder, stretching times. I can see the positive effects of a God-centered life more and more.

The Truth
(The lies are easier to believe)

Sometimes in life you can get completely choked with listening to negative things about yourself - whether it's about how you look or who you are, whether it's things people have said or just feelings you have, it can be completely choking and destructive. Often by talking to other people about what's going on you release the negative effects that they can have on you, by exposing the lie. That's what this art's about - it started as just getting all the ugly stuff inside of my heart out. As I was doing it and getting really involved and messy with the inks, my fingerprint started to come through. It was God's way of speaking into the situation - as I was crying out to Him and exposing the things that were trying to crush me, He spoke back and said 'look, you're my child - I created you. You are a unique and special gift. Don't listen to the lies - this is what I think of you…'
