Your U2 sermons

Get Up Off Your Knees: Preaching the U2 Catalog

A few of our friends; Raewynne, Beth, and Mike are putting together a book proposal. They are Episcopal priests and huge U2 fans.

They are looking to gather submissions for _Get Up Off Your Knees: Preaching the U2 Catalog_, a collection of sermons which draw on the music of U2. U2 material may be used from any era, any tour; they want your ZooTV sermons as much as your All That You Can’t Leave Behind or October ones (maybe more!) Also, please keep in mind that this is not a book trying to prove anything about U2 themselves, but a book of examples of how religious leaders are integrating spiritually informed pop culture into their proclamation of the Gospel.

You need not be ordained to submit a sermon, but they expect the material to reflect the experience level of regular preachers who are skilled at engaging responsibly with contemporary media. You may submit more than one sermon, though it is unlikely more than one per preacher will actually be used. Sermons must be in a form that is readable as prose to people without the actual CD or video at hand.

Please submit your sermon to us in .rtf format as an attachment to an email, which should have the subject line U2 SERMON. Give your sermon a title, indicate at the top the Bible passage(s) and/or lectionary occasion on which the sermon was based, and list the U2 song(s) you use.

At the bottom of the sermon, include a biography of yourself not to exceed 100 words, as well as your full contact information, which should also appear in your email.

The deadline for submitting a sermon is **December 15th, the third Sunday of Advent 2002. **

All submissions are subject to editing. They hope to inform you sometime early in 2003 if they will be able to include your work. They have made initial contact with a publisher but do not yet have any guarantees. Their current plan is that all royalties from this book will be donated to one of U2’s charities.
