Making it to the Party on Time
Prophetic Coursing
We
prophetic folks, maybe more than all others, really need to
pray for both humility and wisdom. We also need to seek out
those who are truly pastoral.
This week, God reminded me, in a funny way-which is usually
the way He works with me, that I simply could not make it
without the rest of The Body. I had been prophesying my butt
off for a few days (which is good because I needed to lose
some weight), when I realized, right in the middle of giving
a word to someone, that I did not really love them. At first,
it made me sick. I mean here I was at this coffee house in
America, sharing God's heart with someone and what was my
motivation? I mean who cares if your anointed if you're not
moving from His love. I realized in that instant that I was
being just a minister-and that that is just not enough. Prophetic
folks more than anyone need to love. I think in Heaven we
will be most rewarded or Judged by how much love we moved
in as we used His Gifts.
I realized I needed to do something-and it wasn't what you
would think. I needed to go get with a pastoral type and let
them love on me. We need each other! And especially now. If
you are prophetic, God wants to link you with people who have
the other areas of gifting or base anointings. I tell you,
we get even weirder if we let ourselves get off balanced by
not becoming interdependent on the rest of The Body. You think
we were weird yesterday-wait til we've roamed around prophesying
for two weeks without sitting still to be loved on and counseled
by some lovely pastoral type.
The unity that God wants to bring us to in this season means
that not only do you need to know your calling, but you need
to know other people's as well-and get with ones you know
you lack. Sit with a great teacher and get yourself good and
anchored in the Word before you go out telling the Mcdonald's
girl that she will experience new levels of glory as she serves
Big Macs. Let us prophetic folks be the first to humble ourselves
and gather for true fellowship. Firstly so that our gifts
will go directly to equip those we are called to equip, and
secondly because we just plain old need each other.
Humility is the obvious need of all those who God touches
with His words for others. It's really easy for prophets to
stay humble because we make so many mistakes. But you would
be surprised! Humility basically comes from realizing that
whatever God touches in your life-whether it be your words
or your general prophetic orientation towards a person (ie
revealing God's stance to them by taking it towards them)-is
from Him and for Him. The more you realize that it is completely
for Him and so that His purposes get done, the more of His
Power He can trust you with.
Look at Peter and John when God used them to heal that lame
man at the temple. They did not start talking about how cool
they were after it occurred. They started talking about Jesus.
That is how it should always be-the Power is His and should
draw people to Him. That's just basic 101 wisdom. It ain't
me, it's Him.
Now I believe that learning to listen to Him for other people
is fun. And I think Paul was right that we should zealously
seek after His Gifts. For me, prophesying is still about getting
to know God-which is our mandate-to love and get to know The
Man. I don't think this has to be an overly serious activity,
but you do have to give them what you think He is actually
revealing to you, and you do have to take care that you do
it in love-as Paul makes clear in Corinthians. So let's have
fun prophesying with each other, but let's have a little wisdom
with it and do it in love to build up the Body-to equip one
another for acts of service. And let's be humble throughout
the whole process so He can get His work done through us,
and we can make it to the party on time!
