THE
TRIANGLE
A Balanced Lifestyle
The triangle is a symbol that can be used to remind us that
as Christians we need a balanced lifestyle.
We recognise that we are primarily called to relationships,
and our lives need to have a balance of focus between out
relationship with God (UP), with each other (IN) and with
people outside the Church (OUT). This is apparent throughout
scripture, for example in the letter to the Ephesians, or
in Jesus' prayer in John 17.
We
would suggest that many churches tend to be strong in two
of these, but that it is rare for churches to operate effectively
in all three. We use the triangle at all levels of Church
(individuals, small groups, clusters, whole-church) as a 'health-check',
to make sure that we are balanced in our relationships.
In the 'OUT' dimension, and specifically mission, we would
follow the teaching of Jesus to the seventy two as written
in Luke 10. We encourage members to look for 'people of peace'
as a focus of their witness to Jesus, rather than trying to
witness to those who are not interested. People of peace can
be recognised because they welcome you, listen to you and
serve you (as in the above passage of scripture).
