Tourism is an important aspect of trade; trade that can bring
real change to the lives of the poor; trade that can also
undermine development. The majority of us believe that the
poor should benefit from tourism as much as tourists benefit
from their holiday, however, we face an obstacle; information
on the effects of our holidays is hard to find! Tearfund believes
it is time that we all had The Right to Know!
Tearfund is asking campaigners to visit their local travel
agents on Saturday 26 January, The Right to Know day, to ask
some very simple questions. Click on the four links below
for everything you need to organise your Right to Know day
of action
(You will need Adobe Acrobat to read these, download it
for free by clicking here):
If you are planning to go on holiday and want to be a responsible
tourist then visit Responsibletravel.com.
This independent website helps you to be a responsible tourist!
It provides information on holidays that maximise the benefits
to local communities and the conservation of habitats and
species. All holidays featured meet a minimum level of responsible
travel criteria. Tourists can also give their own assessment
of companies performance so make sure you log
on and explore!
