Pete Greig - 24-7 Prayer - oN THe mOvE NoW - as of Jan 2002

oN THe mOvE NoW

A lot of people ask me where 24-7 is going. Good question! Trouble is, when you’re driving at speed, it’s much easier to check the rear-view mirror than the map. We’re still committed to stopping this thing the moment God does. But if I had to guess what God’s saying right now, I’d say that he’s challenging us to be a movement and not a model. In other words, 24-7 is about relationships and a shared vision. Not following a strict model that says ‘this is the way you must pray’.

However, before you freak out, we’re not about to shut down the Prayer Rooms or abandon the non-stop approach. Quite the opposite. God gave us those things and they are working incredibly well. After 2 years of continual prayer, we’ve got nothing to prove.

CALL OF THE WILD
But if we’re gonna stay true to the way God first programmed us, we just cannot settle for ‘business as usual’. That’s fine if you’re a business but we’re called to be a movement. Faith and danger are inseparable, so we must keep taking risks for God.

  • It’s wild when guys from New Generation church in London jump in an old van and literally take the prayer to Switzerland.
  • It’s wild when people club together to open a Prayer Room in Ibiza.
  • It’s wildness that pulsates through the words of the 24-7 ‘Vision’, causing some people even to have 24-7 tattoos (not recommended)!
  • It’s wild when 24-7 launches in Germany next door to a Satanist festival and the festival gets cancelled as a result.
  • It’s wild when the Salvation Army decides to pray for a year.
  • Or when people get the outrageous idea of starting a monastery!
  • Let’s face it! It’s also wild that every single Prayer Room opens with the ridiculous intention of non-stop prayer!

BREAK THE RULES!
So 2 years down the road, as we get older and wiser we must also get younger and wilder! We must continually subvert our own systems without destroying what God has given us. Break rules to build relationships. This year let’s listen carefully to one another, take risks and give ourselves sacrificially to God. And let’s have as much fun as possible along the way!
God is doing something BIG and every one of us has a part to play. If you think we might be able to help you fulfil your God-dreams in some way - I’d love to hear from you!

Cheers, Pete Greig
