LIVING IT - STORIES - FRIENDS

Joanna Dring- Preston

I haven't been at my current church long, so I havent really had a chance to really get to see what the (few) young people are getting done for God, but I'm a student at present and me and my friends have had some quite exciting goings on.

A mate of mine had an idea to get a few of us together and give free cakes out to people coming out of the student's union on a thursday night. We just wanted to do it as a simple way of showing God's love to people, by giving them something nice (most of the time!) and free. We started that about 6 months ago and its been really cool as God has helped us to be faithful by most of us being there every week during term time. we seem to have got a bit of a name for ourselves as the 'cake people'! Also, some really interesting conversations resulted from people being told that Jesus really does love them, such as one girl who was apparently moved nearly to tears, and one lad who I see most weeks was so aggressive for a start, throwing strange questions at me to catch me out and accusing God of being all sorts of things, but he has softened so much and has been really intrigued by my relationship with God and so I really believe that the Big Boss Man is at work in him.

So we have been suitably impressed by how God has managed to work through 6 very normal people just wanting to serve Him.

Also, the Christian Union here has had a mission the last few weeks and I havent been each time but I hear that there is one girl who was a CU member's flatmate who has been really touched by hearing about Jesus andanother guy who has started coming along so that's cool.
