LIVING IT - STORIES - FRIENDS

Nick - Coventry

We're really excited about what God is doing in Coventry. My wife, Vicki and I have lived here for 4 years and were released to plant a Vineyard Church in January. So far there are about 30 of us in 3 housegroups. We've just done an Alpha course in a pub with good results but feel that the course is too long and for some 20s to 30s its a bit too Anglican. Hope that doesn't offend (I grew up in an Anglican church).

We're looking for ways to show our generation how to follow Jesus. That's is that's our mission statement. We want to:

  • Encourage people to worship God.
  • Equip people to do the things Jesus did.
  • Express God's love to the people of Coventry in practical ways.

This Easter we are giving out free Easter eggs to neighbouring houses and looking for ways to help people practically like tidying up gardens, decorating, things like that.

For us Housegroup is key, and we very much hold to the UP, IN and OUT model.

Between now and July, instead of doing church every Sunday morning, expecting people to come to us, we're doing alternate celebrations and community projects/servant evangelism stuff.

Coventry is bereft of decent coffee houses/cafes, we have no Starbucks or Costa. So at present I'm toying with the idea of opening our own coffee house!

I'm also a secondary school science teacher which I do 4 days of the week, my contract is up in July so I'm looking to do supply work in September or maybe run a Cafe. I don't know, I'm pretty fed up of doing "the same old" and not actually reaching people my age in the community around me.

Cheers

Nick Sutton.
