NETWORKING - BEING CHURCH - ROUGH GUIDE TO BEING CHURCH - PREPARING TO GO

Chapter One - Preparing to Go...

Autumn 1996

During the Autumn of 1996 four 20-somethings got together to pray in Sheffield. None of us was in a small group of any sort and felt we needed some fellowship. We prayed together once a week and waited on God with great expectations that He was with us and preparing us for something.

During this time two of us led a small group on an 'Alpha' Course within St Thomas' Church in Sheffield. The group mainly consisted of students, two of whom were very young Christians. We all seemed to get on very well and were relaxed and real together, and the suggestion came that we continue to meet as a small group once the course was over. We shared this with our prayer 'four' who thought that it was a great idea - so we started a small group.

• Prayer should be a pre-requisite
• Identify your needs
>>>• community, commonality, kingdom values
• Look for God's grace
>>>• don't need to strive to make something happen
>>>• find the general sense/direction in which God is at work
• Mutual support & relationships are the building blocks for the kingdom
